A must-read for anyone who fancys themselves as a reader of the political tea leaves, Thomas Edsall's NYT opinion piece "The Future of the Obama Coalition". Just about the time we begin to convince ourselves that the Republican dynamic is, well, not very dynamic we're given this gift from the democrats. They're in an even greater state of turmoil than we are. To quote Mr Edsall, ". . .the party will explicitly abandon the white working class". The problem with that reasoning is the word "white". The working class is not just white. They are the Contemporary Reagan Democrats and they're made up of educated and non-educated folks of all races. What they have in common is that they like to be independent and they all - work! That is if they can find a job.
So the democrats just can't refrain from pulling the race card so much so that they're employing it into their overall strategy - and in a very negative way. And it should back-fire on them. Question is, will our side make the necessary adjustments so that they can then exploit these massive chinks in the democrat party armor? We'd all like to think so. But our GOP has allowed the gift horse to wander off into the woods before.
