A must-read for anyone who fancys themselves as a reader of the political tea leaves, Thomas Edsall's NYT opinion piece "The Future of the Obama Coalition". Just about the time we begin to convince ourselves that the Republican dynamic is, well, not very dynamic we're given this gift from the democrats. They're in an even greater state of turmoil than we are. To quote Mr Edsall, ". . .the party will explicitly abandon the white working class". The problem with that reasoning is the word "white". The working class is not just white. They are the Contemporary Reagan Democrats and they're made up of educated and non-educated folks of all races. What they have in common is that they like to be independent and they all - work! That is if they can find a job.
So the democrats just can't refrain from pulling the race card so much so that they're employing it into their overall strategy - and in a very negative way. And it should back-fire on them. Question is, will our side make the necessary adjustments so that they can then exploit these massive chinks in the democrat party armor? We'd all like to think so. But our GOP has allowed the gift horse to wander off into the woods before.

Charging At Windmills? Not Don Quixote This Time...
"The Netherlands is finding out just how expensive offshore wind power really is. Last year the Dutch government paid 4.5 billion euros ($6 billion) in subsidies to wind producers. With a population of only 16.6 million, the Netherlands subsidizes wind production at an astounding cost of $370 per Dutch resident. This is unsustainable for the Dutch government, which has decided to reduce its own costs and transfer the subsidy costs to Dutch electricity consumers.
Since 1996, the Dutch government has been providing an 18 euro-cent (24 cents U.S.) per kilowatt hour subsidy to wind power producers. To put these subsidies in perspective, the average retail price for US electricity is only 10.60 cents per kilowatt hour. In other words, American electricity rates are less than half the Dutch’s wind subsidy..."
( Read the article in its entirety on the Institute for Energy Research website here )
Our crack CSC Blog research team has also learned that the same thing is happening with Massachusetts' Cape Wind Project. It is forecasted that once completed the Boston area electric users will pay about 34.7 cents per kilowatt hour to power their homes and businesses. Plus the government will have to continue to subsidize it.
And guess what else we've learned? The Green Energy folks have targeted coastal North Carolinians as their next victim. ( link ) No matter how the Green's try to spin it, Wind Energy can not be market-driven because it's costs are prohibitive. It must be subsidized by both government and you!

Gingrich Speaks - Ad With Pelosi: "Dumb!"
Well the actual Gingrich quote: "the single dumbest thing I've done in years" said in reference to the global warming loveseat ad with Nancy Pelosi while on Fox News the other day. Newt went on to call himself a "global warming agnostic". Not willing to accept or reject the concept of anthropogenic global warming. Well, we here at CSC Blog feel that is some better. At least Newt rejects Cap and Trade, as we understand it.
We're not advising Newt here at CSC but if we were we might have advised him to simply remind folks that the Pelosi ad came out in 2008. Climategate - 2009. Do the math. Many of us were fooled by these NASA and East Anglia so-called scientists with their left-leaning political agenda and that now infamous hockey stick graph. We might advise Newt to just say that Climategate "opened my eyes". Then drop it. Leave it be. And keep reminding folks that you'll continue to strongly oppose cap and trade. And "Drill Here, Drill Now!" Keep saying stuff like that.

Hardwood on the Flight Deck . . .
High Five to Communications Specialist Lowell Whitman for setting up his time-lapse camera somewhere on a high point of the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier. Specialist Whitman captured, over an 8 day period, the construction of a full, hardwood basketball court and bleachers on the flight deck of the carrier. Our North Carolina Tar Heels destroyed the Michigan State Spartans on that site 67-55! And President Obama was present on deck to watch the game.
Check out this article in its entirety "and" Specialist Whitman's awesome time-lapse video here: ( link )

More NC Movie News . . .
Its not our intention that the CSC Blog become the entertainment page but there's news of another new movie being made at least partially in NC and about North Carolina politics:
UPDATED: Actors Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis star as North Carolina politicians in a new movie titled "Dog Fight" that will begin production soon.
As reported by the Greensboro News & Record -- which will be featured in the film -- Ferrell describes the movie this way: "It’s basically the story of a small time congressional district in North Carolina, in the south, and I’m the incumbent candidate who’s about to run unopposed for my fifth term. . .
( read the NewsObserver article in its entirety )
Can we really trust liberal Hollywood to interpret North Carolina politics? Not likely. They'll surely have fun smearing Republicans and trying to make Republican politicians look like Boss Hogg or some version thereof. Even this NewsObserver article takes a swipe at Jesse Helms which probably sets the tone for the entire movie project. But let's give them a chance hoping to be pleasantly surprised. This should be entertaining and good for the growing NC film industry.
